With producer Steve Kravacat helm, the album leans into skate-pop punk more than any previous album. A polarizing release initially (some critics wrote about wanting more horns and more "major label" sellouts, although the band being back with an indie-label). Punknewscalled the album "underrated." Though Canada's Chart Attack & Germanys' Rock Hard & Ox-Fanzine would disagree. As would UK's Downed in Sound giving the album a perfect 10/10 and writing "every song is so darn catchy". 25 years later, Borders and Boundaries is now is the band's best selling and most popular release.
